Iron Velvet Art is an artist-driven platform that empowers and celebrates contemporary Asian diaspora artists and curators.
We aim to give artists and curators rightful exposure and an intimate sense of community, amplifying their voices and creating synergetic opportunities to express art that reflects their diasporic existence.
Iron Velvet Art, an iron hand in a velvet glove, borrows its ethos from an old Korean adage, “외유내강," similarly meaning, "Inner strength wrapped in a gentle facade." We believe that Iron Velvet Art captures the essence of tenacity of Asian diaspora artists. Our platform aims to provide a sense of communal home to foster friendship and solidarity, where one can feel safe while daring to provoke.
Our own diasporic experiences contain multiple universes, traversing between the margins and the center, and elsewhere. IV is committed to giving voice and visibility to those artistic expressions that reflect both spatial, temporal, cultural and spiritual dimensions.
Through Iron Velvet Art, we strive to create lasting impact, inspiring critical dialogue, research, and synergetic collaboration among artists and curators to embrace their identity and redefine our own narratives.
